Going to try and snag a Wii for Christmas. Went to the Bestbuy at Deerfoot Meadows last night and they said Friday morning was a possibility. Any other sightings of Wii's or inside scoops on days/places they may be available?

I read bestbuy would have a lot on Sunday, but i think it was refering to american bestbuy locations. There was a web tracker that would email you the minute it was available on futureshop, bestbuy, toys r us...ect. Was pretty useful, let me try to find the link.

Unfortunately I can't get there this morning but the N.E. Futureshop has a shipment of Wii's coming in this morning. If you can get there before 10 am. the manager told me the chances of getting one are very good. Dang why can't it be the Bestbuy just down the hill from me at work!!!!

Futureshop has them on these days for $269 and if you could possibly head over there in the next half hour you would have one for what is the best price going.

No. If I remember the Toysrus price is $279 and it varies from $289 down to $269. I would think you can get it for $269 from anywhere that either sells it for that or will match competitor prices.

That's where I got mine. Not a lot people think about HMV when it comes to video game eletronics, I didn't . When I got mine, they had quite a few but this was probably 6 months ago. I would give them a call to see if they have any in stock.

There is the increased demand in the Christmas season and when you factor in that they sold 1 million DS and Wii units in November they have to be just cranking them out as fast as they can. Could they have possibly had their projections high enough to think they would be the console winner? They would need methinks a slowdown in sales to catch up and that surely won't be happening at Christmas time.
Plus you have a great game like Galaxy pushing sales and then soon after Christmas Super Smash Brothers will be out and that should keep sales strong till spring. Maybe summer of 08 they will be on shelves.

Went to Superstore Westwinds NE and no luck there. We were looking for Guitar Hero and wasn't able to find one. They also didn't have Wiis. Best Buy Sunridge had 10 last Thursday but was sold out really fast. At EB games, they usually have it by Thursday noon. My neighbor got one at Market Mall.

Well isn't it always the way it works. Last night I go with one of my sons to do a little Christmas shopping. Got the shopping done and decided to head to EB Games and see what games we could try out. They had Galaxy on the Wii and it is a great game. Meanwhile low and behold they had Wii's and I could have snagged one with ease though they all very rapidly went in the half hour we were there.
Amazing how fast word spreads. One guy walked in and saw the Wii's and said I'll take two. But the limit was one -- poof out comes the cell phone and not five minutes later some other guy runs in and manages to grab one of the last two.
So funny to see the stack of Wii's just dissapear while the two huge stacks of Xbox's and PS3's moved nary a one.

I have been told that HMV stores in Calgary will be getting their new shipment in Monday morning. At least that way when you line up you are inside a nice warm mall.
I've always found it amazing that despite all the differences in world cultures, lifestyles and value systems on this planet, there's always certain constants that can span across all of them, no matter where you are located - the Wii is popular all over the palce.
As an example... at any given time, some high-level gamers in big competitions in Tokyo are playing on the same console as a bunch of businessmen taking a break in a hotel room in Switzerland, who are playing on the same console as a bunch of drunken frat boys in a dorm room in New York , who are playing on the same console as a bunch of waiters in the back-room of a restaurant in Singapore. None of these groups relate to each other in any way or even speak the same language, and are thousands of miles apart and lead very different lives... but they all enjoy playing the Wii. To me, this just seems amazing.

If they're anything like their farm team store, FutureShop, then the problem with trying to buy from them online is that their inventory online updates only once every 24hrs apparently and that's how I got screwed out of buying a Wii today.....*grrr*

I tried it without success but methinks it's all a matter of timing. Walking by HMV at the right time. At a mall shopping and you drop into EB and poof.
That or you create your own timing by constant phoning and checking and pumping every source you can for info.

Nintendo announces Wii Raincheck program. Pay for a Wii in full now and get your Wii in Jan. Rumor has it that due the the sick demand for Wii since it's launch Nintendo has not saved up extra stock for the Christmas period. Wii is likely to be harder to find than ever comming up to Christmas.
My brother lives in Remond WA (just ouside Seattle) and is looking for a Wii for a gift. He says that last weekend the biggest Best Buy in Seattle got over 200 Wii in Sunday morning and it was like a scene from launch. There were tents and lawchairs up almost 48 hrs before the store opened at 9 am for the rush. The 200 Wii's were spoken for well before the store opened.

They are only doing this through GameStop... which I do not think exist in Canada... at least not Calgary...
In theory this could actually make it even harder to find a Wii in places other than Gamestop after Christmas... I mean they can't meet the demand supplying Wii to any stores, and if they stock pile a bunch for one stor I would think the others would be left out in the cold.

I'm not sure that is true. I believe there are some special packages that come with other games. No biggie as you will be buying Wii Play anyway for the extra controller and the games are similar. Really just introductory party games. Head out and scoop Galaxy and then save your coins for when Super Smash Brothers comes out.

I was in a store a few weeks ago looking for a game for myself and while I was in a lineup the guy infront of me bought 2 units and I listened to the sales guy talk about the system and the hot price.

I am amazed that Amazon doesn't allow for waiting lists for members to purchase an item. Perhaps that will become available when/if Amazon Prime comes to Canada. I order enough stuff off amazon that 3.99 express shipping for every order is more than worth the cost of the yearly membership.

It sounds like some EB Games have them today, but I cannot get there soon enough from work, so I am still looking I think.

I bought my Wii at EB games like 6 weeks ago on a Friday, so I assume they have thier new shipments available then. Also, Bestbuy gets shipments on Tuesday as well as on Thursday

Is there still a shortage of Wii's after almost a year and a half after its launch? If so, then Nintendo is dropping the ball big time on capitalizing on the opportunity to grab a stranglehold in the console wars.

Dropping the ball? Its the fastest selling home console ever. Even after getting more manufacturing facilities for production, it is still at capacity. Nintendo expected brisk salse, however I don't even think they expected the demand for its machine to be this high. Your production facilities can only produce so many units.
The Wii has sold more units worldwide in a little over a year than its predecessor did during its lifetime.

Well, maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I still think the Wii has a higher novelty factor than any other console before it. (I don't count handhelds as that's a different market)
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I bought a Wii on February of last year. When I first had it, I played it a ton. As the year went by, I played it less and less. I dunno, maybe it really isn't my cup of tea. But I haven't touched the Wii in the last 4 months.
I'm just thinking once the novelty factor fades away with the console, it won't sell as good afterwards.

Nah, I've never sold any console or any game I've bought, ever since my NES. I've got a ton of old consoles and games sitting in my closet. I dunno, maybe I'm just weird that way. What can I say, I'm a packrat. :)
Oh, and please don't take my comments as me trashing Nintendo, because I'm not. I think they've been phenomenally successful with the Wii, which I'm happy for them since the N64 and the NGC didn't fare too well. I'm just saying they aren't taking full advantage of the current demand for the console, that's all.

I'm kind of in Yen Man's camp . . . I bought one and played the bejesus out of it for two months and haven't touched it (at all) since I last played mario galaxy in the middle of december. I'm actually considering selling the whole package. I sat down today and crunched some numbers regarding how much I've spent on it. That experience pretty much solidified it for me, I've spent way too much on this thing to just have it sitting there gathering dust.
Unlike Yen Man though I don't actually think the novelty will wear thin. It's geared towards a certain type of gamer, and there are tons of them out there. It'll always be a system that the parents can view in a positive light, so that should drive sales until it's death.

Well if there are no games you see coming out that will get your interest back, then that's probably a good idea for you. I find it hard to believe however, that anyone has had a console system that did not sit for a while at some point during that console's lifetime and "gather dust". Game droughts (based on personal preferences) probably account for time off.
I like it because I still enjoy playing the games I own, plus I take advantage of the virtual console. It helps that I can play it with my wife too, who right now is addicted to Endless Ocean and is hogging the damn thing.

As for the demand- part of the reason I own one is because of the demand. I had been hunting them down for friends and family for weeks before Christmas, and then when I saw one on Boxing week I snatched it up faster than a fat kid seeing the last box of Smarties.
Plan was to see which of my friends still needed one; and then if nobody needed it sell it here or something. But now at age 37 I have the first video game console I've ever owned.

Its a lot of Open Ended exploration of a fictional Sea. It is a calming change of pace for a game as you do things (certain objectives) when you want and there is no "dying". If you enjoy Marine Life, you ought to enjoy this game. Like I said it has my wife addicted.
BTW I just got No More Heroes, and I must say it is a solid pickup. Don't get it for the kiddies though.

I was at the Toys-R-Us on Macleod trail the other day and they had several in. You might want to call them up and check, if they don't have em ask when they get the shipment in and get there early that day.

Nintendo is just like your typical home builder....fails to keep up with demand when it's red hot than over saturates the market when the demand is no longer there!
That said my wife saw one at a Zellers on the weekend and picked one up. This time she got away with spending a few hundred bucks and not having to deal with me grilling her about it and forcing her to take half the stuff back.

I bought one on Ebay a couple of weeks ago, 350 including Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Sports. But I didn't have to go running around for it, and I got it locally so I didn't pay shipping and no GST. Pretty good I thought

they are pretty widely available now. go to a couple stores and I'm sure you'll find one. Yesterday I was looking online and both best buy and future shop had a bunch in.

It's funny, a couple of weeks ago, I did go to a bunch of stores in the south and nobody had any and neither Bestbiuy.ca nor Futureshop.ca showed any stores in Calgary as having them, so I thought they must still be a bit rare. I figure I only paid about $10 more than I would have in a store since I got Super Mario Galaxy with it. If I had paid a little more, I might have been pi$$ed.

In case anyone is interested, Amazon.ca has them instock with free shipping for $269. For those of us lazy that like to just order things and have them brought to us... dial a bottle... pizza... call girls... that type of thing.

If anyone sees any this weekend, can you post in this thread or let me know by PM?

The new Beacon Hill Future Shop had 100 each day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I stood in line today for about 15 minutes and managed to get a ticket for one. 45 minutes later I paid for it and am very happy I never have to look for another Wii.
Very hard to believe these things came out a year and half ago...
