Less than a month until the World Juniors starts in the Czech Republic. Canada will likely be releasing the list of invites here in the next week or two and will probably be holding camp around mid December.

The Super series team showed that they were a pretty dominant group, and outside of Sam Gagner and David Perron I think that entire team is back in Junior this year so they could bring that squad back. But John Negrin looks to be having a pretty solid year. He's only 18, so he still has next year, but has he been good enough to warrant an invite to camp? Leland Irving should get an invite and will have to battle Mason and Bernier for one of the two goaltending jobs on the team. He won the battle last year to backup price, but he'll face some tough competition this year again.

OK well let's look at the D:

For sures:
Alzner
Hickey
Ellerby
Wishart
Doughty?

That's 5 guys that it would seem to me should be on - anyone I'm missing.

You then have a collection of guys up for the rest of the spots. Not sure on all the candidates Negrin would be up against for those slots.

hes in really tough to make the team, but it would be nice to see him get an invite at least which won't be easy given the fact that he wasn't there in the summer. nice season he's having though. haven't seen much of the WHL this year...is he outplaying more 'famous' names such as Ellerby (I can't get a read on that kid)

Tough to say with Ellerby - his stats certainly aren't great but really he's not the type of guy you can judge by stats....

There actually maybe even fewer locks that I listed. Perhaps just Hickey, Wishart and Alzner?

Well Doughty, Godfrey, Logan Pyett, and Luke Schenn played for Canada in the Summit series. Ellerby is having a bad junior year. Kamloops traded him and started winning. Moose Jaw traded for him and lost a lot of games afterwards. But he has a track record with Hockey Canada so I imagine he'll get an invite almost out of courtesy. I suspect all 8 guys from the Summit series will get invites, ( but they usually invite 10-11 guys to camp and carry 7 on the team. So you have 2-3 extra spots for invites. If Ellerby is a courtesy invite they might bring 12 defenceman to tryouts.

Alex Pietrangelo should get a good look too. Projected to go top 3 in the draft this year. Will be a few weeks shy of his 18th birthday when the tournament begins. A very solid defenseman.
