This is the 20th game of the year for the Flames, the 18th game of the year for the Icehogs, and it is AHL game #259 on the season. It is the second meeting between the two teams. The first meeting was the first in the AHL for both clubs, and saw QC win 5-1. It is the first time this season that Quad City has made the trip to Rockford. The Flames are 6-1-0-0 in their last 7 games. Rockford is the AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Scouting Quad City:
Record: 8-8-1-2, Tied for fourth place in the Western division
Leading scorers: Leading scorers: Points - Grant Stevenson: 7-7-14. PIM - Brandon Prust: 56. Goaltending - Brent Krahn, GAA: 1.50, Save%: .946
Last time out: The Flames hosted the Iowa Stars two days ago, and fell behind 1-0 in the first period. However, backstopped by a tremendous game by netminder Brent Krahn, the Flames were able to storm back and pull out a come-from-behind 3-1 victory to vault them into a tie for fourth place in the division.
Around the corner: No rest for the weary as the Flames return home tomorrow night to host the Peoria Rivermen. Quad City has two games this coming week, one on the road in Chicago on Tuesday, then back to back home games on Friday and Saturday against the Milwaukee Admirals and Manitoba Moose, respectively.
Notable roster news: Just before Wednesday's game against Iowa, Calgary called up Quad City foward Dustin Boyd to the NHL. In turn, the QC Flames called up Adam Cracknell from ECHL Las Vegas. Curtis McElhinney and Eric Nystrom also remain on call-up to Calgary.
Scouting Rockford:
Record: 10-4-2-1, third place in the Western division
Leading scorers: Points - Martin St. Pierre: 7-13-20. PIM - Colin Fraser: 67. Goaltending - Wade Flaherty, GAA: 2.65, Save%: .929
Last time out: Rockford has not played since Sunday, November 18th when they beat Toronto Marlies, in Toronto, by a score of 5-3.
Next match up: The Flames and Icehogs meet only once more this calendar, in Rockford on December 15th.
Notable roster news: Recently, forwards Jake Dowell and Kris Versteeg were called up to the Chicago Blackhawks. David Bolland was returned to the Icehogs from the Blackhawks as well.
Random fact associated with tonight's game: A rivalry that lasted eight years in the United Hockey League continues in the AHL, and saw the two teams regularly met between 16 and 20 times a season for those years, will now see the two teams lock up only eight times this year. Quad City's overall record against the Rockford, including the two teams' eight playoff matchups and one AHL clash, is 56-34-10(all shootout losses in the UHL). The AHL record sits at 1-0-0-0
