This is the 19th game of the year for the Flames, and the 18th game of the year for Iowa; it is AHL game #244 on the season. It is the first home game for the Flames after a five game road trip. They are bringing home a 4-1-0-0 record with them. This is the second meeting between the two teams. The Stars are the AHL affiliate of Dallas.
Scouting Quad City:
Record: 7-8-1-2, Tied for sixth place(With the Stars) in the Western division
Leading scorers: Points - Grant Stevenson: 6-7-13. PIM - Brandon Prust: 52. Goaltending - Matt Keetley, GAA: 2.28, Save%: .916
Last time out: The Flames made another trip to Milwaukee, a place that had been a house of horrors for the team from Quad City. The game started out in a similar way, with the hosts taking a 2-0 lead into the third period. The Flames came out on fire(no pun intended), dominating the entire third period and pulling out a 4-2 win. Brent Krahn stopped 19 of 21 shots, and got the win, in his first game action of the season.
Around the corner: Quad City gets US Thanksgiving off tomorrow, and then return to the ice with two games in two days. They make their first ever trip to Rockford on Friday, and return home to take on the Peoria Rivermen Saturday night.
Notable roster news: Curtis McElhinney and Eric Nystrom remain on call-up to Calgary.
Scouting Iowa:
Record: 8-8-1-0, Tied for fifth place in the Western division
Leading scorers: Points - Toby Peterson: 11-11-22(Leads league in goals, second in points). PIM - B.J. Crombeen: 41. Goaltending - Tobais Stephan, GAA: 2.98, Save%: .887
Last time out: The Stars were embarrassed at home by the Flames, giving up two goals in each period and getting shut out for the first time this season.
Next match up: The Flames and Stars don't meet again until near the end of the year. They will have a Boxing Day clash in Des Moines.
Notable roster news: On Monday, Dallas traded Iowa defenseman Mario Scalzo to Tampa Bay for AHL defenseman Bryce Lampman. Lampman was assigned to Iowa. Also, Todd "Fridge" Fedoruk was also sent down to the Baby Stars.
Random fact associated with tonight's game: Recently demoted Stars winger Todd Fedoruk is well-known for dropping the gloves. What isn't quite as well known is that after a bout with Derek Boogaard last season, Fedoruk underwent surgery to repair a 'broken face.' Fedoruk emerged from the surgery with a titanium plate in his face. Since that fight with Boogaard, Fedoruk has dropped the gloves 11 times, only winning once. One of the losses, to New York Ranger Colton Orr, resulted in Fedoruk being knocked out cold.
