Sounds like an AHL-level deal.

A little odd considering he didn't report to Quad City when originally assigned there. Flames brass didn't sound impressed at the time.

So he didn't want to play here in the pre-season, and now he wants to play here because he couldn't find somewhere better? Not impressed.

It's nice to see the team trying to improve, though.

Well. Didn't see that coming.

Well the QC is a bit short after losing Ryder, and now Nystrom looks to be awhile with the big club.

Kolanos was always one of those highly regarded prospects but with the Flames luck, he's just another bust. Maybe he'll be a gem in the rough (but never a diamond).

That now makes 3 first round picks from the 2000 draft that are either with Calgary or in the system.

Is this an AHL only contract or do the big Flames still have his rights?

The press release leads me to believe that Quad City signed him to an AHL contract. Was he ever signed by Calgary? I thought it was just a try-out.

Yeah, it was a try-out.

Says here he was assigned to Quad City, which I assume meant there was a contract waiting for him.

QC Times story on the signing (http://www.qctimes.com/articles/2007/11/14/sports/doc473a7865b6186385573642.txt)

Quad-City Sports Ventures Inc...... has signed NHL veteran and former Phoenix Coyotes first-rounder Krys Kolanos to a one-way AHL contract.

Because he is under contract to the AHL team, Kolanos’ salary, which was not disclosed Tuesday, will not count against the NHL salary cap of the parent club, Calgary Flames.

Well, now that he's got a team, the minuscule possibility of being a call up exists. Probably what will happen is that a bunch of fringe NHL'ers will be calling up their agents and getting assigned somewhere, anywhere before December.

Maybe a bit of competition gives Boyd the kick in the ass he needs.

Can't believe he couldn't find a place to play in Europe. Must be tough times.

In Soviet Russia, place to play finds you!

Kolanos was just on the FAN, said he was sorting out agent issues. (Dunno if thats the whole story)

^Yeah caught that too- sorta weird sounding stuff. Said he wanted to play with the Flames, and they wanted him but almost sounded like the agent was getting in the way - in fact if I heard correctly he has a new agent now.

Yeah JP Barry, who I think represents some big names. Not sure who he reps on the Flames, I think Regehr?
