Do you say hack-ee or hawk-ee?

Hawk-ee .... I reckon I've never heard no one say 'hack-ee' 'fore. I'd be right pickled if'n I heard that. :D

That's what I thought. They had someone from QC's front office on the Fan and he kept pronouncing it hack-ee. Thought it was a bit odd.

Dennis Voss was pronouncing hockey like hack-ee... so... I dunno, he doesn't have a newfie accent, there's no reason why I see him pronouncing hockey like that.

Minnesotans say hackey. I remember an interview with Jordan Leopold when he was still a prospect and he kept saying hackey. I was surprised he didn't know the name of his own sport.

I guess I say Hock-ee. I don't put the "aw" in it. But I am from the 'southern' QC area.

When I lived in Iowa, my favourite was when people would say "Ice Hockey."

Like I'd be walking up to the rink, which was in a mall food court (no kidding) and someone would say "Oh, are you going to play Ice Hockey?"

Like they're all more familiar with field hockey? Or Tonsil hockey? I don't know.

When people say that to me I just say yes ice hockey. I also like wood basketball and grass football.

! I am so using that!

(and I'm so pretending I'm the one who came up with it too. Try and stop me! :D)

Well, street hockey was pretty popular when rollerblades first came out. Maybe that's it.

Hack-ee sounds like a Chicago accent to me; I can picture the "Da Bears" guys saying it like that.

I have a friend from England who did the same thing when he came over at first...it was funny. He dropped the "ice" pretty quick!

If it gets less people saying ice hockey, it's all yours.
