No pictures from today, I decided to try and watch as many players as I could. I will have pictures from tonight's pre-season game though. I was able to watch a few players I was curious about(having numbers today helped) -

Cam Cunning - He is alot quicker than I thought he would be. I'm not sure why I figured he wouldn't be as fast as some of the other guys, but he is. He also has a pretty quick touch with the puck.

Ryan Donally - Again, he's faster than I anticipated he would be, better on the puck as well. He isn't the strongest puck handler of the bunch, but for a thumper, he has pretty soft hands. He also seemed to be pretty accurate with his shot.

Dan Ryder - I can't say anything more than I've already said. This kid is something special. Based on the few days I've watched camp, I'll go out on a limb and say he's the most talented rookie I've ever seen. He's fast, he is great on the puck, and he has a wicked shot.

Justin Donati - He wasn't as impressive today as he has been, but I'd still think he deserves a contract. From what I've seen, he has really good hand-eye coordination - they had trip drills and he was able to get his stick on the puck no matter where it was.

Adam Cracknell - This kid has a shot. His wrist shot was like a frozen rope. He has good size too, and was able to get around really well.

Kris Chucko - He seemed to be very solid as well. Good on the puck, and he made some very good one touch passes.

Both Lalande and Keetley looked great today as well. Overall, it was another great practice. I can't wait until tonight to see how they do against another team.

Thanks again DS, some comments/questions:

Ryan Donally - I've always read this guy is a slug on skates, I'm surprised you said he has pretty good speed. Any NHL pro-alike comparisons?

Dan Ryder - Not surprised. Many here have thought Ryder is a better prospect then Boyd.

Justin Donati - If you have any idea, does he look like a Marty Murray?

Adam Cracknell - Real great to hear, looking purly at stats, his ECHL season was underwhelming. Do you think he'll make QC? Big players do tend to be late bloomers. Do you think he can carve out a career as a 2nd line power forward?

Ryan Donally - I've always read this guy is a slug on skates, I'm surprised you said he has pretty good speed. Any NHL pro-alike comparisons? - From what I've seen, I would compare him to an Ian Laperriere type player. Granted, that's a very early judgement, but I see him as a player that has skill to chip in some goals, and defend his team

Dan Ryder - Not surprised. Many here have thought Ryder is a better prospect then Boyd.

Justin Donati - If you have any idea, does he look like a Marty Murray? - I can't say either way on that, sorry. He's a bit undersized(the 165 he's listed at looks pretty dead on), but he's quick and definately has skill

Adam Cracknell - Real great to hear, looking purly at stats, his ECHL season was underwhelming. Do you think he'll make QC? Big players do tend to be late bloomers. Do you think he can carve out a career as a 2nd line power forward? - If he uses his size, he can definately be a power forward. He needs to play with his frame, push people around. From the little I've seen, he looks like he's a bit afraid to get his nose dirty. Hopefully that is just because it's his own team mates. I would say he has a solid shot to make the squad

Hope that helped!

Have never heard that phrase before- conjured up quite a cool mental image!

Thanks for the write-up DS, great stuff.

I am quite interested in Pelech, having seen him play last year. I was quite impressed by his mobility, being that he's such a huge kid. Comments on him are always welcome. Cheers!

I think Pelech will be a very tough guy to judge, since Pelech's make-or-break will be how defensive awareness and how he learns his defensive positional play and one-on-one skills. That's the big thing for Pelech to learn in QC IMO. The guys a tank, we know that, he's got good speed for a big guy, depending on how he learns how to read the ice and position himself / use positioning to his advantage, the guy is going to be a No 1 mainstay on the blueline.

Just a note on cracknell...it was on here sometime ago that he missed 31 games due to a lower body injury. I believe he broke his leg or something like that....perhaps this will be his year.

watching from the east!
