I'm not a huge John Mayer fan. But I liked some of his early songs and did think 'Continuum' was a great record. Nonetheless I saw him a couple years ago in Ontario. Good show... way different than I was expecting. That dude plays a mean guitar and as a fan of the frets I was very impressed. I don't know about his new stuff, so I'll probably skip this go-round

Off to see The Swell Season tomorrow in Van. Should be an excellent show. I've seen The Frames before and they were great.

Lyle Lovett will be at the Jubilee Auditorium on January 18.

A recent review after playing the Beacon in New York at this link:

http://www.nypost.com/p/entertainment/music/item_D4zSvPZBHQbiF2eSt65QiI

He has a new album out.

Interestingly, while he tours almost continuously, he doesn't go overseas much but every once in a while . . . . . it would be kind of cool to catch him in a snowy Paris or a toasty Perth.

I agree... show was outstanding and it sounded amazing!

The crowd was lame but the venue isn't really a stand up type place ( although there was a guy right by me that would argue that point). It's unfortunate becasue I would love to move with the music (kind of like dancing but really white and not very good at all) but I certainly would hate to sacrifice the sound the Jubilee has to offer with a band like Wilco. I think seeing them at Mac Hall just wouldn't do them any justice.

Megadeth show as great last night. All 3 bands were in top form, not a bad word to say about the performances, completely professional and worth every dollar. Watching Rust played from start to finish was incredible.

Have to complian though, the Big 4 building is a horrible venue, hard to see the stage from even 50' back, then there is the issue of the 3 huge pillars blocking the view. Sound quality of the room is laughable, 3/4 back all you can hear is a wash of noise.

The bands didn't even have room to raise their backdrops, half of Megadeth's banner was obscured by the drumkit. The promoter also made the ridiculously amateur decision to have the entire crowd enter through a single door. One person at a time is no way to have thousands of people enter a venue, had to wait outside in line for 45 mins.

After all the shows that come to town is incredible how this promoter can screw up the details so badly.

I went too. My problem was the fact that everyone felt they had to be right on me the entire show. Exodus was fine, I had a bit of space, for Testament I had a bit of space. For Megadeth it felt like I was in a men's prison showerhouse. I am a tall guy 6'4", but I have the upperbody strength of a 12 year old girl. With that said, when they started pushing enough for me to bump the hot chick next me, that was enough. I pushed this one sweaty fat mofo about 6 feet away. He comes back to me like "what the hell man?" and was seriously PO'd. I know it is heavy metal, but we don't have to act like demented retards.

Oh and I can see now why they have rules (most concerts) for no photography. I could see about 13 cameras/phones in front of me almost the entire Megadeth show. The one jerk-off in front of me filmed the entire show on his iPod nano, and I almost got tempted enough to just grab it from him and toss it across the room. And it wasn't like I was in the back, I was about 30 feet from the stage.

Got to disagree on the sound of the bands though. Exodus sounded like crap IMO, everything was way too distorted, Testament and Megadeth were fine.

Holy crap - cool picture!

I'm so mad at myself that I didn't go to the Toronto show as well, it was such a fantastic show, I could watch it several times. It's a shame they don't come around more often.

Compared to the set list from other recent shows however, the show in Detroit skipped at least one song that I really wanted to hear. I'm not sure why, I hear it was because of the time constraints at the venue setting up for another show the next night. That was a bit of a disappointment, but not enough to take away from a great night overall.

Seeing them at Wembley is on my bucket list!

Anyone know when the Maiden tickets will go on sale and through who? Ticketmaster again?

Wait, Boblobla, they're on sale today?

Edit: Just checked out Ticketmaster and it says 10:00am today.

Last time for the Edmonton show I just googled "pre-sale code iron maiden" and I found it in like 5 minutes, try doing the same, I'll do it now and see if I can find it.

If I can't post back try "Guitar" or "eddie" or "Eddy", for the edmonton show "Guitar" worked.

Although, the pre-sale may be for iron maiden club members only, which means we're screwed until Thursday, maybe I'll pay the 10 quid and sign up.

I think 107 will be too sideways for me and I'd rather be a bit further away, but with a better angle to view the show.

First of all, they can suck a **** for going after our own Neil Young, and secondly, I'm pretty sure they're down to about 1 or 2 original members. I mean, the lead singer is the brother of the original lead singer, and he's this dorky loser who chews gum like dumbass the whole show.

He looks like the little nerdy brother that would hang around the band, and get told to GTFO away from the band because he's so annoying.

http://www.ticketmaster.ca/Tool-tickets/artist/720703

Is that for real? Tool isn't even on tour right now and are supposedly writing a new album. Their site doesn't say they are touring or list any tour dates.

It's ticketmaster-should be legit. They did this last time as well, then added the Calgary date before they went onsale.

Also, I've checked around and Tool have confirmed a summer tour. They are touring before the new album, which I love because then we get new material in its rough form and before we have the album yet.

It appears Edm and Van were just the two first dates confirmed.

I hope Tool adds a Calgary concert. That's one of the few bands left on my list of "Must See's".

Also, Sonic Boom 2010 was announced for September 4, 2010 in Edmonton with Rise Against, City and Colour, Weezer, Bad Religion and Wintersleep as the first few names playing.

It drives me nuts that Calgary doesn't seem to get any good outdoor music feestivals, especially for rock fans.....i'm sure lots of people on here remember how awesoem Edgefest was back in the late 90's and the crowds were always there, I never figured out why they stopped doing them. Edmonton gets Boonstock, Sonicboom and any festival that is touring seems to go to Commonwealth. Hell, Winnipeg is getting an awesome festival called Rock on the Range this year adn thats the second year in a row. I know we have gotten Virgin Fest and Warped Tour but it boggles my mind how concert promoters can't bring a big outdoor music fest yearly to Calgary....sorry for the rant!!

Not really a concern for me, I'll drive to Edm if there's no Calgary show, Tool will be so worth it.
Looks like tickets are going on sale this Friday.

Dude.. Tool is a MUST SEE show
I went to Calgary concert in 2006 or 07 (can't remember) for the 10000 days tour, and then went on a roadtrip to Saskatoon in November 2008. So awesome!

The jab at Neil Young was part of a long-standing friendly feud between Young and RVZ. Probably well-deserved too.

I actually really enjoyed the seated floor last time. Apparently it was the promoter/bands choice to have a seated floor.

I think it is because tool views their shows more as an experience than a show to mosh to. I sat 3rd row last time and it was nice to just sit back and enjoy the show (even though I spent the whole show standing up).

I was 4th row the last show, pretty awesome-I like the floor when it's not oversold-when they came for the previous tour-they way undersold the floor and It was great to be able to move around a bit but still be nice and close

I love Tool but not that much. Not worth the extra $$ to have to drive to Stabmonton just for a show, especially because I'm not sure if any of my friends will want to go with me. When NIN played in edmonton me and a friend drove up there and stayed in a hotel and we were able to split the costs.

Tina's been here before. One of the best shows I've ever seen.

The best thing I've ever seen was Joel Plaskett at Knox United. He was simply magical.

Are you talking about the line about telling Neil that a southern man doesn't need him around anyhow? If so then you need to brush up on this "feud" as it's talking about Southern Man, the song Neil Young wrote.

They moved Warped Tour up to Edmonton this year now for whatever reason. :(

Though, Calgary did get Monsters Of Rock in 2008, so that was alright. But yeah, this drives me nuts also. I know it wasn't a yearly event, but Calgary got it and not Edmonton.

I rarely use presales. Most concerts I go to I just buy floor tickets the day of or a couple of days before. But that only works if the floor is GA.

Apparently once they set up the stage they are able to determine how much GA floor room they have they release extra tickets based on the size of the floor. That might be total BS though. I heard that somewhere.

Last time Tool came around they had a seated floor though...
