Rise Against and The Gaslight Anthem, October 6th at the BMO Centre.
http://www.unionevents.com/shows/view/3187/rise-against
Ugh, I'm a huge Gaslight Anthem fan, but I really don't care for Rise Against. I'm not sure if it's worth it to spend $60 just to see a 45 minute opening set...
Actually the new Hot Water Music album is pretty decent, for 3 bands I'd say it's a pretty decent bill.

Got some comp tickets for Nickleback tonight so I can go see Bush.
After they are done I figure I will go up to the nosebleeds and find a Dad/son and give them my tickets for the rest of the show.
Very excited for Bush, although I haven't listened to a lick of their new album.

Buddy Guy at the Jubilee is on sale now..got front row tickets.
If you're a fan of the blues I can't see how you'd want to pass this one up - dude is 75 years old; we won't have him around and touring forever.
I recommend everyone see Buddy Guy. I saw him a couple years ago at the Jubillee and it was amazing. The guy still has a tonne of energy and can sure play.
If you go and do no enjoy it you are likely a Nickleback fan.

METALLICA is taking its famed snake-pit stage setup to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada's Rexall Place on Friday, August 17.
METALLICA will perform its catalog of hits amidst a mind-blowing 360-degree stage that needs to be seen to be believed. This 140x50-foot stage will feature colossal components and striking visual elements spanning METALLICA's entire 30-year career.

While Metallica did come for 2 shows in I think it was 2009, they had to modify and eliminate some elements of their show to conform to the Saddledome. Even if they did come to Calgary I would still probably pass, I've seen them 3 times and while they have been good shows, none of the shows fall into my top 15 or 20 concerts.

I was so happy when I saw Hot Water Music at Sled Island a few years ago.
By far the best band on that bill...they are a treat to watch.
Gas Light Anthem puts on a decent show.
It's sad to be that such an amazing band like Hot Water Music, that has been around since the early 90's, has to open for such a mediocre band like Rise Against.

They went on a little after 9. Probably around 9:15 or so.
They were so amazing, blew me away. The sound was pristine, and the songs translated so well with the whole band. Perth was especially amazing, they put so much emotion into that song. Everybody went crazy for Skinny Love, and obviously Calgary. They looked like they were having a lot of fun playing, an Justin is so awkward between songs it's pretty funny haha. Enjoy!

Given that it sounds like their lugging along extra filming equipment I'd bet dollars to donuts that the Saddledome's roof is the reason there's no Calgary date this time around. Sucks too cuz Metallica has been doing the "in the round" performances for like a decade now, so I doubt their light rigs are going to be getting any smaller.

Not sure what Tuesday night was like or which songs were played but Bon Iver killed it last night! The sequence of Hinnom, Wash, Holocene, Blood Bank and then Re:Stacks was likely the best live music I have ever witnessed. Not really music that people really got into and the crowd was very sedated but the sound was amazing and better live imo. Especially Blood Bank:whistle: Beth/Rest sounded pretty brutal though:bag: He played for over an hour and a half and had two encores. The Wolves Act 1 & 2 was one of the encores and also amazing live. Any youtube of this? Fair amount of recording in the crowd. The Staves opened up and hit a bunch of doubles and thanked the crowd over and over and over again.....

Coke Stage line-up....
Makeshift Innocence, Raghav and The New Cities (July 5 Sneak-A-Peak);
Our Lady Peace (July 6);
AWOLNATION (July 7);
George Canyon (July 8);
Victoria Duffield, Karl Wolf and Danny Fernandes
(July 9, afternoon);
K’naan (July 9, evening);
Seether (July 10);
The Sheepdogs (July 11);
Dragonette and Carly Rae Jepsen (July 12);
Simple Plan (July 13):
The Trews and Big Sugar (July 14);
Mother Mother (July 15).
Not sure quite how to feel. On one hand I don't want to sound like one of those people that don't understand that you're not going to get amazing A list acts on a small, free stage show, but on the other hand, I'm sure they could do a little better, or maybe I'm getting older and more out of touch than I used to be.
For me, I see names like Dragonette and Carly whatever, Victoria Duffield, Danny Fernadez, Makeshift innocence, Raghav, and the New cities, and I honestly couldn't even tell you what type of music any of those acts play, let alone give an opinion on whether they're good or not.
K'naan's definitly a must see though, I'm surprised they were able to get him for the Coke Stage.

Also, you've got to feel kind of bad for Our Lady Peace. A few years ago they were the band that was officially too big for the Coke Stage, when the Stampede stated that they shouldn't have had a band as big as OLP there. Saying the crowd was too big and they feared for peoples safety.
A few years pass and the Stampede calls you and says "hey Raine Maida, want to play the Coke Stage at Stampede?".
"Uh, you said we were too big for the coke stage"
"Yeah, that was when you guys were good, now you've fallen far enough that you can play any year you want....Unless of course we find better bands"
"That's the worst thing anyone's ever said about my band to my face, you a-hole. If I ever see you, I'll knock you out. How dare you say that about our band!!"
"So, do you want the gig?"
"........yes"

Isn't it weird to have a country artist like George Canyon playing the Coke stage? I guess Nashville North is already booked solid.
If I do go to the Stampede this year I wouldn't mind seeing K'naan, The Sheepdogs or Mother Mother, but I wouldn't go just to see them. AWOLNATION has one ok song but otherwise are pretty meh. The rest of the bands I don't know or don't care about.

He came on around 9:15pm and played until 10:50pm. Aside from bringing Peter Gabriel out on stage and playing Flume I didn't really think he needed a second encore. To be clear I said above that he came out for one encore with two songs. Also you can argue that the Wednesday night show was better than the Tuesday show as he played two extra songs.

Yeah it kinda bugs me as well, there's plenty of opportunities to see country acts at Stampede, let the Coke Stage stand as a rock/alternative stage for the week. Plus it's not like George Canyon is a hard act to see, doesn't he play like Sunshine Village for free at the end of each ski season?
If it's just a matter of filling nights then partner with x929 and have an Xposure night on the Coke State with local acts. Or hell get The Dudes up there, whatever it takes, just keep country off the Coke Stage.

Anyone try for Metallica tickets in Edmonton this morning? Couldn't even get a pair at 10AM. Tried the presales yesterday and at 10AM best I could do was about 30 rows up the second level. I kind of assumed they were holding a lot of the first level/floor tickets for today as it didn't look like many first levels were going up on StubHub. Now I can't get a pair anywhere.
I've been frustrated with Ticketmaster lately. Not even including Garth Brooks, I've had zero luck (with presales included) to get anything but nosebleeds when I try to buy tickets at 10AM. I almost wish it was a lottery system so I feel like I had a chance at decent tickets. Does anyone else suck as bad at ticketmaster as I do?

Yeah for sure. I saw them in 2009 in Winnipeg and bought some 100 level tickets off of StubHub. I think I found them for $155/ticket which was by far the cheapest on StubHub at the time and the most I could justify spending as a student. With two shows though, hopefully I can find a good deal.

When RHCP came through in '06, I saw them from the 3rd level. With them it didn't matter though. Those guys just go up and play and if you are there for the music than you can do no wrong with them. Still one of the best concerts I have ever been to.

Yeah I saw the RHCP in 06 in the second level, its an all seat floor (which I hate) so I mean whats the difference really? I'm not sure I'd call it one of the best concerts I've ever seen, but thats because a) I've been lucky enough to see many better ones and b)I'm now very anti-Anthony Kiedis. Also sucks you'll be seeing them without Frusciante, as I don't care what anyone says, he, more than Flea, took them to another level.

I had a similar problem with my Iphone. When I found out they were having a second show I was at the Vancouver Aquarium for our last life drawing class. I tried numerous times to get a ticket but every time I went to check out I got an error. I managed to luck out and get a ticket in section 116 in row 16 when I got back to the school. It's the same row as me and a classmate are sitting for the first show but we're in section 119 which isn't really that bad considering the stage is suppose to be 140 feet by 50 feet so it should almost be like sitting on the sides for an end-stage concert.
I was a little bummed out considering I'm a club member and sat in row 3 in the middle the last time but then I realized that Edmonton and Vancouver are the only North American dates they're doing this summer and that Vancouver is way bigger than Winnipeg so the chances of getting a really good seat even in the Metclub pre-sale wasn't as good as it was when I lived in Manitoba.

I'm not up to speed on the Alberta liquor rules, but is this not the condition of being allowed to admit minors into the show? Although I have seen events where those of age have been wristbanded (or so I thought).
A similar thing happened at a show in the lower hall earlier this year, except there was a physical barrier between the drinking section at the back, and the all-ages section at the front, apparently due to liquor regulations. So you can't buy a drink if you're under age (understandable), but it is still necessary to physically separate someone with a beer in their hand and someone without, and that makes it OK? Same room, same show. Right...

Yeah I tend to avoid all ages shows at Mac Hall for the same reason, plus the damn kids make me feel like a grandfather hanging out at the food court. The upstairs hall does have nice sight lines & an intimate vibe with the artist, but for an evening out it wears pretty thin.

Honestly just basing it it on the single criteria of "how good is the view of the stage & performance" it's a great venue.
But as soon as you start piling on things like the baby sitter liquor sales, lack of food/vendors/bathrooms, and just the general "vibe" between sets it really isn't the best place to spend an evening out.

I was joking with my wife recently "remember that old couple that you'd sometimes see at shows? That's us you know." We are only 33, but we certainly notice it more now.
And because my hair has been going grey since my late teens, and mostly grey since my mid-twenties, I'm approaching "random old guy at show" status quicker than I had ever imagined possible.

Arkells was pretty solid last night, althought that will be the last time I attend an "all-ages" show at mac hall. The upstairs hall is terrible. In what world does it make sense that you have to leave the venue to drink a beer? Brutal.
They do all ages for them when they come to the local campus bar here in Stoon.
It's usually jam packed on the drinking side, and about 1/8th full on the all ages side until the Arkells goes on.
I can only imagine how stupid it must look to the band from their point of view on stage.

It was even worse that the opening band appears to be a new Hedley/Simple Plan/whatever group that all the kids like. They were called "The Maine" I believe? Tons of screaming teenage girls that all left before the Arkells came on. Strange night.
But yeah, The Arkells were great as always.

I did some googling, I was looking to see what day they are playing Saskatoon, turns out they aren't. Yet another band doing the Edmonton/Calgary/day off/Winnipeg tour.
Woo is me.. especially since I had tickets to their last show and they cancelled..
I can understand not wanting to play Saskatoon, no great high way here from Calgary, and then the highway to Winnipeg is even worse. But at least play Regina, thats all trans Canada... and then we can drive down there to see the show and still make it back, late, but that night.

So Joel Plaskett is playing at the "Wildhorse Saloon" on July 8th. Unfortunately that's one of those big Stampede tents, so it will probably be filled with annoying Stampede folk.
And speaking of Joel Plaskett, my wife made a little stop motion animation video for his Scrappy Happiness video contest, so instead of requesting a full-on jihad in a new thread, I'll subtly request that you click "like" on this one on YouTube if you have a moment and a YouTube account. ;) Many thanks!

The microphone fiend Rakim at Commonwealth cancelled yet again. Concert was rescheduled to this Wednesday Jul 27 but just received this email. Props for the promoter and Zoobis for telling it like it is.
Due to circumstances out of our control, the rescheduled RAKIM date is now cancelled. We tried very hard to work with the booking agent and his management to get him to honour his contract, but he simply just "doesn't feel like it." This is a terrible excuse and we are extremely disappointed and WILL NOT reschedule Rakim again.

So the Skrillex/Diplo/Pretty Lights show that's supposed to be in Edmonton next month has run into a few snags.
It was supposed to be at Kinsmen Park in St. Albert, but the city denied them the permits. The promoters have said they are looking at a couple spots in Edmonton, but nothing confirmed yet. Yeesh.

Two big shows just announced for the EDM fans out there:
Tiesto at the Big 4 on October 25th and 26th.
Bassnectar at the Big 4 on October 31st.
Both should be great times.
Went up to see the "Full Flex Express" Tour in Edmonton over the weekend with Skrillex, Pretty Lights and Diplo and it was FREAKING AWESOME. All three put on amazing shows. Skrillex showed up in a spaceship. The thing flew around. It was wicked.
Although it was held at the Shaw Conference Centre...which might have been the worst venue ever to hold an EDM show. The floor is tile, which got covered in booze in about 10 minutes, so everyone was basically dancing on a slip'n'slide all night. I saw at least twenty people biff it and I was terrified I was going to crack my skull open.

The band regrets the decision but the uncertainty of Randy’s release makes it impossible to carry on with the tour. Upon Randy’s release, it is the band’s intention to rebook a tour in the fall. Dethklok is also looking at scheduling dates to preform soon as well.
Lamb of God wants to thank all of the fans who bought tickets for the tour and who have been supportive of Randy and the band over the last month that Randy has been held in Prague. Without the fans, there is no LAMB OF GOD.

To be fair, I haven't seen him live, ever for that matter (only VHS of dire straits in concert), but unfortunately it's been my experience that these guys tend to "rock less" as they get older, and Bob Dylan's reviews get worse and worse each time he comes around.
I guess seeing Clapton and Knopfler in 88 would be close to prime, unlikely the show will be anywhere near as good.

Although this will be at least Dylan's third time in Calgary, I have never had any desire to see him in an arena. That being said I am a fan of his music and own many of his CDs. I am really going to see the contemporary Knopfler not the Knopfler from the Dire Straits era. Dylan is just a bonus for me. Floor seats in the centre of row 2 will be nasty. I love Knopfler's Shangri La from 2004. If the concert is terrible, such is life. Sometimes Flames games are terrible, sometimes they are special.
Saw Van Morrison from the centre of row 1 in the Jub two years ago. It cost way too much, 2.5 times my Dylan ticket, but I could not pass up the first time to see Van and also great seats in a premium venue.

Caught Bruce on his last two tours, both fantastic shows. Really glad I was able to catch the band with Clarence Clemons. You could definitely tell the Big Man was on his last legs on that final tour, but man, he was still such a commanding presence.

They have half price tickets on Groupon, unfortunately I already paid full price. :(

Sound was surprisingly actually out of this world for a small event (they had set it up for more people, but wasn't advertised very well and wasn't a big turn out IMO). It had bass that vibrated me through my core, but didn't drown/muffle background sounds/nuances, everything sounded great (only saw the last 2.5 acts though).
After being disappointed with the sound at the Saddledome for the last Black Keys/Arctic Monkeys concert, and being blown away by this show, I never want to see a band at that piece of crap dome again.

Brand New played Mac Hall last night, and were amazing. Brand New is one of my favorite bands and one that has matured from punk/alternative roots to something deeper and profound.
The Band has never seemed to be a big seller, and I never understood why. Listening to Jesse Lacey's lyrics have always had a way to hit home.
Great concert, 10/10.

Yeah I was really excited to see them both at once. I'm new to Toronto so I'm trying to take advantage of shows like this as we rarely got them out West.
Band of Horses was good - his voice really held up live but you can tell they're a small venue band and the outdoor concert didn't really suit their style.
MMJ was on another level, though. Saw them 10 years ago but Jim James has really developed into a great frontman and they put on a hell of a show.

What a mess last year. People just started pissing everywhere. So gross.
For getting to Fort Calgary your best bet would be taking the train to the City Hall station (I believe?) and walking. It's not too far, probably a 15 minute walk or so. Don't bother driving, you won't be able to park anywhere close.

Billy Corgan is The Smashing Pumpkins. Jimmy Chamberlain was in the reunited band for a while, but left to form a new band. And while he is a talented drummer and contributed the second most to the group, he is still just a drummer, and lots of other bands continued without their original drummer (like The Who or Crowded House.)

Yeah, but they didn't lose their bassist and lead guitarist either.
Corgan may have written everything they did in the 90s but i suspect wretzky and iha reeled him in and were pretty fundamental to their sound.
Seems like Corgan also believes his own hype a little too much.

The Smashing Pumpkins on their "farewell" tour in 2000 is still one of the most lack luster, disappointing shows I've ever attended.
Years later I tracked down a recording of the show on the archive.org page that homestand posted and it was just a lifeless flat performance.

I saw them twice last year and they were awesome both times, although the saddledome sound always makes things seem a little worse.
On the pumpkins subject, saw them a few years back when they did the reunion and still had chamberlain, it was a pretty underwhelming show, and I'm a big fan, I'll probably pass on this one unless I get cheap/free tickets.

As you've probably discovered watching other '90s bands nowadays, original members don't really make it any better. Most of the bands from the '90s are all wash ups by now and are just living off of peoples' nostalgia.

As an X Fest rookie i'm wondering if anyone who went last year can tell me how the set up was (besides the reported lack of outhouses). What kind of food was there??? Price?? How much was liquor?? Are the beer gardens in a decent location(can you see the stage and hear the music well from them? Was security ridiculous? Basically just curious about what my friends and I have to look forward too? Thanks CP!

Last year they had a bunch of food cars out, pizza, burgers, poutine, fried chicken, lemonade, whatever you want. The price was probably 2-3 dollars more than you would pay outside of the compound.
Liquor was 6? Bucks a beer.. I can't remember, it might have been 8 buck actually for a can of beer. It was expensive.
The beer gardens were shoved way in the back and people lined the fence to get a glimpse of the stage on the complete opposite side of the concert grounds. You could hear the music still, but not very well.
Security was fine, they patted you down as you walked in. If the mickey was taped to your penis you would probably be fine.
Overall the whole thing was run poorly imo, the logistics of it all were dumb. They left a very narrow gap between food cars so it was just packed with people. There weren't enough out houses. The beer gardens were way too far away from the stage to be able to drink and enjoy any of the shows. There were not enough out houses. And there weren't enough out houses.
I stopped drinking because I was sick of waiting in line for 30 minutes (no exageration) to pee. I don't need to get hammered to enjoy a show, but if I am paying a lot of money to be there I expect to be able to enjoy myself, this really dampened things.
How it could be so much better this year? Use some of the empty pointless space to spread the food/eating area out a bit. Move the beer gardens over closer to the stage. And get about 5x as many porta potties.
That all being said, I watched four shows total: The Dudes, Rural Alberta Advantage, AWOLNATION and Wheezer. All four shows were just awesome and totally made up for the crappy experience that was X Fest.

Agreed with pretty much everything GreenLantern said. It was still a fun day, but one of the most poorly run events I have ever been to.
The VIP beer gardens were a better set up than the normal beer gardens (you could actually see the stage), but there were even less out houses in there and they ran out of beer. I remember most of the food places running out of food, and you weren't allowed re-entry so you were basically hooped.
They also need something to do in between bands. They had this really lame wrestling ring set up and showed like amatuer wrestling or something and it was really, really bad. They need to come up with something better to do on the down time.

Did they not have two stages? When I was going to festivals like this 10-12 years ago (shortly after dirt was invented) it seemed to be the standard to have the main stage & the small stage. Pretty much as soon as a band finished one stage another band would be starting up on the alternate stage. So no real downtime between bands.

You would think, but just one stage at X-Fest.
When they had Virgin Fest at Fort Calgary a few years ago I believe they had three stages, so I don't really know what the issue is.
I was just at Osheaga in Montreal and they have two big stages literally side by side, so when one band finished the next band started right away and the crowd didn't have to move. It was fantastic.

For those in Vancouver:
http://www.metallica.com/news/20120823-188847.asp
Here's how it works: We will be running though the full live show one last time at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, but unlike the Friday and Saturday shows there will be lots of breaks in it to allow for cameras and lights to be repositioned as the director sees fit. Since it is way more fun for us to have YOU there, tickets will be available for just $5 (no extra fees or service charges!) and all the proceeds will benefit the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
Tickets will be available in a special Ticketmaster pre-sale tomorrow, August 24 at 9:00 AM. Click here (http://www.metallica.com/tour/aug-27-2012-vancouver.asp) to obtain a password and then head over to www.ticketmaster.ca (http://www.ticketmaster.ca).
Fan Club members should log in to www.metallica.com (http://www.metallica.com) NOW for more details about a special pre-sale starting later today. Finally, tickets will be available to the general public Sunday, August 26 at 9:00 AM. There will be no floor tickets for sale (too many cameras!) and there is a four ticket per person limit. Lower bowl tickets will be assigned a section, but are G.A. within that section.

Refused killed it last night, just full throttle start to finish. Now maybe it's because I'm an old fart or I just haven't been to Mac Hall in a while... but I swear that was the loudest show I've ever been to.

Refused put on one of the best shows I have seen in the past 10 years. Incredibly tight, precise and frantic at the same time. They were so ahead of their time, that entire set sounded like it could have been written yesterday. As influential as they were, I can't imagine their impact if they would have stayed together past '98 and toured.

I think it had to do with the festival not making much money in Canada as a whole. I believe they took a hit in a couple of cities in 2009, then announced they'd be taking a year off from the Canadian version of v festival. Which was likely code for "uhhh yeah, we're not coming back to Canada".

I thought X-Fest as a whole was much more organized this year. Lines for the port a potties were 2 minutes instead of 2 hours. Beer was quick to get, and there were a tonne more food options. It sucks that Incubus pulled out without any notice, but I don't think the majority of the crowd was there to see them. I was, but they'll be back to make up for the show.
I think that as long as they can attract big headliners, some decent undercards, and good local / Canadian talent, they can be successful in drawing people in every year.
What were everyone's thoughts on X-Fest this year?

I was not at X fest last year but yesterday was great as far as festivals go. Lots of toilets and a huge beer garden meaning small lines all day! Sucks about Incubus but Linkin Park was great and big kudos to MuteMath for killing it during the rain/hail storm and not missing a beat! All in all a great day! Calgary needs festivals like this, edgefest was great but only lasted 3 years, Virgin Fest was good but only lasted 2 so hopefully X fest is here to stay!

Unfortunately, most festivals like this seem to have a shelf life of about 2 or 3 years, before organizers get frustrated and give up. And especially with attendance dropping this year, depsite having (what I believe to be) a better line-up than last year (obviously before Incucbus dropped out, which wouldn't have affected ticket sales with the late cancellation), I coul see X929 and whoever they teamed up with being frustrated at the turnout and wondering if it's worth it to keep trying.

I didn't even experience any lines at all at the porta-potties. Huge change from the public exhibition that last year turned into. No cheering on girls this year but at least we had plenty of condom balloons thanks to Durex :blink: :bag:
As far as ticket sales go I wouldn't be surprised if last year hurt them. Me and my friends were so mixed about liking the line-up and the poor organization from last year turning us off that we actually only decided to go Friday after we had decided not to go but couldn't resist in the end.
Was so much better this year not just from the organization (Still some flaws like some of the security at the gates being uptight morons who were even taking away items clearly listed as allowed on the site) but the line-up actually appealed to me this year. Only group I didn't like were Young & The Giant due to where they were slotted in mixed with the Incubus circumstance more than their music. They should have been slotted in around L.P. because their music just doesn't have the energy needed that late in the lineup especially when after FUN. performed the Incubus news was spreading through the crowd thanks to social media. MuteMath turned into the perfect group to be on stage when the hail came, The Joy Formidable killed it and FUN. had a high energy performance living up to their name. Energy was up and then it totally got killed. First the long delay between FUN. and Y&TG killed the energy and the wrestling was being pretty much totally ignored all day. Then a low energy group hits the stage with a longer dragged out set which doesn't help. Thankfully Silversun Pickups (Dat Bass) got things going again and well even the seniors were out rocking on the roof across the street for Linkin Park after them ;)
As for Incubus they were 5th on my list of who I was there to see so I wasn't crushed to miss them especially when Silversun had a longer set because of it. But I did want to see them still so it was a slight bummer. At the end of the day though you can't do anything about a singer losing their voice. #### happens. And he tweeted the night before joking about needing to crash somewhere on a couch because the hotel didn't have their rooms so obviously he wasn't feeling ill yet which is why the announcement came so late. I love his statement today apologizing to both us and Edmonton and closing it with how he hopes to be back in the saddle soon. With the Saddledome it is kind of like an unintentional diss to Edmonton saying he can't wait to be back here but not there :whistle: And props to Mike for still coming and performing the Bleed it Out with a Sabotage bridge performance to close out the show.
Only took a few pics since I can't take my good camera to concerts, my phone camera is worthless and my little pocket camera I bought for stuff like concerts doesn't get amazing results so it is a waste trying to take more than a few pictures. As you can see we basically camped out stage left all day.

I think X-Fest has a better chance of survival because it has location going for it as long as they can keep getting permission to use the area. Race City and Canada Olympic Park were not good locations. Especially Race City. For people that can't drive those were an issue and also for people want to be responsible and enjoy the day drinking they created issues. While Fort Calgary provides a location that is much better. And 11,000 people isn't exactly bad. With how close they had the audio/video tents to the stage despite the more than a football field of open area behind them I am not so sure thousands more people trying to jam into that area would have been too great during Linkin Park :blink:
Next up Snow Patrol & Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds in October and Metric in November.
EDIT: Oh and a big thumbs down to the guy on the stage crew that tried to stop Ritzy from being Ritzy!

A lot of these old guys have lost it, but one that still seems to sing as good as the day he cut his first single is Neil Young.
Helpless, helpless, helpless,
Baby can you hear me now?
I give Bobby D credit, he knows he can't sing like before (some people would argue if he ever sang) but at least he still goes out there and gives you a good performance.

Wait, Bob Dylan? I love him, but the dude gives some of the most uninspired live shows I've ever witnessed.

Have to agree. Saw him 3 years ago. His voice was totally gone. He seemed totally disinterested in the crowd. They'd rearranged all of his songs to account for his bad voice. It took me 3 minutes to realize he was playing the "Hurricane", one of his most recognizable songs.

So, one of my favourite artists and an artist ranked as one of the best to see live, Matisyahu is coming to Calgary on Sunday October 14th 2012 but is (unfortunately?) playing at Temple B’nai Tikvah…which I assume means no beer..? Not that I am some lush needing beer to enjoy a show, but I don’t know if I’am loving the idea of a dry concert in a Jewish temple on a Sunday night. The tickets aren’t cheap either (though they’re about the price you’d expect for Matusyahu) being $60/each. Anyone ever seen a concert/event at this temple before?
