Just putting this out there - my girlfriend's cousin does the 3M coating on your hood and fenders and mirrors, and you can save a ton of $$$.
He did this for Toyota before, and just did my new TSX.
He charges $250 for the hood and fenders, not sure how much to add in the mirrors, I will double check.
I will have pics of my car as soon as I get the chance.
He uses Avery instead of 3M, so if you read up you will know it is the better stuff that doesn't turn yellow after 3-4 years like the 3M stuff does.
Only thing is he can only do cars on Saturdays.
If you are interested, PM me and I will hook you up.
Just for an example, Acura wanted to charge me $550 for the same thing with the 3M and not Avery covering.

It's that clear plastic coating you put on car hoods & fenders that helps protect the paint from rock chips... instead of damaging your car, the plastic takes the hit. It is practically invisible.
Next time you are walking around and see a new Mercedes or BMW go look closely at the hood - you can see a little plastic thing going from the front of the hood up 12" - that is 3M coating.

Ooooh. I'd be interested, but I've got enough chips on my hood already. Is it too late?

I'd be interested too, but I just made a big purchase so I wouldn't be able to do it for a month or two. Not sure if that would work or not.
Mazda has the thinnest paint.

That is not cheap. That is standard price for hood and fedners. Most places charge $225-250 PLUS they do mirros.

I think dealerships charge 500+ though when buying a brand new vehicle if I'm not mistaken...

I know another guy who drives an Eclipse has this on his car. I saw his car in person 4-5 times before I even realized he had it done, and yes, it was done the entire time. It's impossible to see unless you go right up to the car.
I wish I had done this when I got mine new but now that it already has rock chips, it's kind of pointless. I'm throwing a car bra on mine for the winter and when I can afford it, I'll have the car completely detailed, inside and out, and have the film put on at the same time. If you can afford to do that, that is the best option. It's a fanatastic product that really does save your paint.

I think the price at most places is around $250 actually. Maybe your friend can offer a better deal?

dumb question, but would this go over the headlight covers?

I'd be interested if he could do it for $150 - 200. I've got an ML350 I am looking to put it on.

dumb question, but would this go over the headlight covers? No, the sheets are custom cut / fitted to each car. There are holes etc. for the headlights.
And just an FYI to all, the latest generation of 3M no longer turns yellow with age. :)

Great, I just bought one. What color is yours?

Mine is white so chipping isn't very noticeable. It might be more noticeable with darker colours. I honestly think 3M'ing is a good idea. But I wouldn't do it at the dealership as they charge a lot I believe.

The dealership charges $295 (at least for the car I just bought). Not really too much of a difference, but they do the mirrors as well.
