This was in an e-mail I recieved from the Mark of the Quad Cities welcoming the Flames to town. I believe we have a logo.

Way to steal the official announcement thunder. If this IS the new logo, then I'm perfectly happy. Flaming C with a Flaming Q and the two don't look like they're having intercourse. Now...put this logo on a RED jersey, and fill the Mark's stands with it and you can have your very own QC of Red.

A bit too big/busy for my liking, and a tad too obvious IMO. But if that's what it is, I'm not overly upset.

Biff, nice pun.

After a 45 second photoshop hack-job, here is what would have preferred the logo to be (obviously not perfect but you get the idea):

Something along the lines of this, maybe just so the players could move around in their jerseys.

They wouldn't just use the Q because the team is not located in the city of Quad. They're not the Quad Flames. They're the Quad City Flames.

There was a limited timeline for logo creation (the need to get get it out to the public quickly after the snap decision to move into the QC).

Not surprisingly, it's a derivative logo.

I actually prefer something simple and understated. Too many teams have cartoon logos(including the former Mallards) or other, way out there, logos. Simplicity is the best in this case, I think.

A dragon would have been cool, though.

They had the pictures of what the jerseys will look like at the revealing. I got pics of them, but for whatever reason this site will not allow me to post attachments (can someone fix that?)

Anyway, A lot of us were right as to what logos were going to be used - the QC on the front; I was right about the Calgary logo being on the right shoulder, and there's another logo in the works for the right shoulder.

Basically, similar to the Calgary jerseys - for the white jersey, it's a red w/ yellow outline QC, for the red jersey, it's a black w/ yellow outline QC.

Not a lot of originality there. Maybe from the same guy that came up with the Flames Central logo. But yeah, time constraints may well have had something to do with that.

And whats on the bottom middle of the back of the jersey?

Also, it looks like a smaller name bar on the back...different font maybe coming?

Logical to wonder if this is a direct preview into the newly designed Calgary jersey too? If so, a bit busy along the sides and bottom.

Excitement for hockey in Q-C heating up

The design of the Quad-City Flames’ new logo wasn’t really much of a surprise or a secret.
The American Hockey League team’s new logo was included in an e-mail sent to patrons of The Mark of the Quad-Cities on Thursday morning. And as co-owner Kevin Murphy stood waiting to pull the drapes off the logo at Sully’s Pub in Davenport on Thursday night, he was wearing a black shirt with the logo emblazoned on it. He suddenly realized it and slapped his hand over his heart to cover it.

The new logo — a large red

Q-C with flames flickering off the back — is very much like that of the parent Calgary Flames. It’s exactly what almost everyone expected.

What was unexpected was that more than 200 people would jam into the small northeast Davenport establishment to witness the unveiling.

“Hopefully, this is an indication of what we’re going to see when the season gets here,” team president Tim Taylor said.

The gathered fans may have been there as much for the free hors d’ouvres and souvenirs, but they applauded wildly both before and after the unveiling.

“I think this just shows that the excitement for hockey is back in the Quad-Cities,” Murphy said.

“We really didn’t advertise this thing that well and look at the turnout. I was excited when I pulled into the parking lot and saw how many people were here.”

Both Taylor and Murphy said they already have seen evidence of the renewed enthusiasm in season ticket sales.

Murphy said many fans signed up for tickets at Thursday’s gathering. He thinks many of those who had Quad-City Mallards tickets in the glory days of the 1990s are drifting back to the new team.

“We’re seeing them come back from every level,” he said. “It’s not just the middle-class fans or the upper-class fans. They’re all coming back.”

Whats wrong with the old stadiums/arenas that are demolished?

You have to change eventually.

Maybe it's just me, but I really liked the logo that they used in Omaha and it's too bad the organization didn't try and do something in that vein in the new location. Not that the new jersey designs are awful....just as someone said above, they look a little....lazy imho.

Altho maybe someone can confirm (as I really can't remember why I think I heard this somewhere) but didn't Rbk say they wanted to get away from cartoon type logos and go more to text or something? This could just be a half drunk pseudo remembering so ignore at will....

yeah, I was hoping for something a little bit more orignial. look at the iowa stars - it's generally the same theme as the dallas stars, yet it's done in their own style. i would have preferred something a little bit more creative and original.

At least, however, there is another logo coming. our left shoulder patch is TBD, which leads me to believe it's probably going to be a logo that pays homage to the quad city mallards.

Pretty massive difference between run-down arenas and hockey sweaters/logos, no?

Or do you think the Leafs, Canadiens, Blackhawks, Rangers, Red Wings and Bruins should all change their logos just because they are old?

Just because RBK decides to go with a new look for the jersey design doesn't automatically mean it's cooler or newer or more hip........just means it's different.

Different isn't always better just because it's newer.

that stems to way back to the early days of hockey. players didn't have any kid of upper body protection and they literally wore sweaters, as the last Vancouver team to win a cup displays

Logo is team idenity. That neccassarily could never get old because it's a image that they are reconized by.

But jersey wise, updating to an better fabric which can give an advantage to players over these older jerseys is never a bad thing. Almost all leagues have changed their jerseys fabric one time or another in the past 30 years.

It's been done in the past before after all.

True. That still doesn't make the vertical stripes a good idea.

Improving the fabric is one thing; switching from a good design to a poor one is another. There is absolutely nothing about the physical garment that requires it to be tacky. :p
