Game starting up soon, the Ducks looking for their first regulation lose. Going to find it tonight.

If the Flames put in a solid 60 minutes they can stop the Ducks' streak.

If they decide to only play for 20 or 40 minutes like most of the season they will get blown out like Vancouver did last night.

I have a good feeling about this one.

It never fails, another 3 GDT's for no reason.

There is a Game Day Thread (GDT) to discuss the upcoming game during the day.

There is a Game Thread to focus discussion just on the game itself.

There is a Post-Game Thread to discuss the happenings of the game when it's over.

If we had just one thread it would be about 60 pages long and very cluttered. Seems to work pretty well as it is now.......not sure what the problem is.

While I appreciate Phaneuf standing up for Kipper, that was a dumb penalty to take. Phaneuf is the primary weapon in the PP and he took himself off the PP with that penalty. Sometimes the best way to hurt a team is to score a goal and put them down 3-0.

Even though Iggy and Phaneuf can handle themselves, they are our best F and D respectively. Others need to look after each other. Prust is doing great, being a middle weight. McCarthy gets butt kicking often. Ritchie is capable. I like to see Regehr and Warrner mean. Warrner used to fight a lot with Buffalo and he should take care of business. Regehr should play with more urgency and edge.

Remember Perry Berazan (sp)? Doesn't might much but when he does he surprised some people.

I like tough hockey!

I like to see Kobesew + ?? for Mike Richards

As much as I don't like Brashear on the other team, I don't mind him on this team as he isn't playing much for Washington. At this point he is a better player than Goddard.

Brad Richard isn't doing that great in TB. Do you think his asking price is reasonable?

I'd agree with that but in this case I'd say it was better take the fight. Letting the team think they can run kipper is a little worse than not scoring a goal and being up 3 goals

What about standing up for your goaltender when he gets run? Or the bigger question of if he gets hurt?

I figure you need to send a message to other teams that if you run our goaltender you will reap the consequenses.

Someone has to FINALLY stand up for Kipper though and say enough is enough. I have no problem with with Dion did personally. I'm glad he did.
The only thing I fault Phaneuf for is not taking more advantage of Penner in the prone position.

I think Sutter should bring Marchment out of retirement, tell him and the media that he gets a signing bonus of 500k if he "avenges" the next player to run kipper. Gets suspended, who gives a ****. Damn salary cap!

You're right about Berezan....and Macoun and Konroyd were a step up...although didn't fight much. That middle eighties Flames team was a tough tough team...with great leadership.

What about standing up for your goaltender when he gets run? Or the bigger question of if he gets hurt?

I figure you need to send a message to other teams that if you run our goaltender you will reap the consequenses.

As I said, sometimes the best way to make your point is on the scoreboard. I think this is an instance where Phaneuf could have picked his spot. I like the fact thathe defended his goaltender, but he knew they were about to go on the PP. The ref right in front of him had his arm up. You don't always have to extract a pound of flesh with your fists.

While I appreciate Phaneuf standing up for Kipper, that was a dumb penalty to take. Phaneuf is the primary weapon in the PP and he took himself off the PP with that penalty. Sometimes the best way to hurt a team is to score a goal and put them down 3-0.

Not in this particular case i wouldn't say...sacrifice his presence this one time to send a message to other players around the league, that won't happen without some form of reciprocation coming back their way.

Good period, obviously. A little lull around the 10-15 minute mark, but they looked good off the start.......nice to see.

My beef that period was with Prust's instigator penalty. You can clearly see him and Thornton talking, then Thornton starts shaking his gloves like he was ready to drop them. Prust does, he doesn't for a few seconds, and Prust ends up with the extra two.

Maybe the ref didn't see Thornton do that, but IMO it was a weak call.

Well it was a pretty good game for our guys. It is going back and forth and that is to be expected playing a very good team like Anaheim.

I think it is really good for our guys that they are playing with emotion and intensity. Its also cool that Prust is the guy to start things off with a fight and some really nice hits in the offensive zone(I think he has all the teams hits in the offensive zone, sad). Thank god someone stood up for Kipper to send a message that you can't run him anymore.

On the fight. I missed the first second or 2. I thought Phaneuf really did well considering Penner his absolutely HUGE but it was Dion taking the fight to Penner but Penner was obviously the stronger player pushing Dion right up (almost off his skates) into the glass for a moment. I am glad the linesmen got in when they did b/c it looked like they were gonna start to through some really big hay makers and I don't like the idea of Phaneuf breaking his hands on the guys face.

Ference seems to be playing really well tonight. He really knows how to use his size and managed to bump giant Penner off the puck a couple times.

Man I hope Amonte can keep this scoring thing going all year. If he can I will take back all the horrible things I said about him.

Its amazing what a player like Prust does for the team. Now if only they could get rid of McCarty and bring Nystrom up and we will be rockin. But maybe we shoudl save Nystrom for the last half of the season.

I understand what you are saying, but, picking and choosing when to defend sends a mixed message to your goaltender and opposition.

If someone wasn't defending me i'd be going after said player. And I doubt any coach would want his #1 goaltender getting in a scrap.
