View Full Version : Ricky Williams To Play For The Stamps???
Ok, so I was watching CFCN news today and the sports guy (Heath Brown I think) was talking about how Wane McGarity was old college buddies with Williams. Anyways, "sources" said that Ricky is travelling to Japan, and when talking with Ricky, Wane said "hey come visit Calgary" and Ricky said "sure!". Wane continued by saying "you should play for us too" and William's response, says the source, was "hey, we'll see".
This is really pushing it, but I thought it was interesting.

Wow, that would be unreal! We wouldn't even need a QB!

LOL, that would be hilarious!
See a player of Williams' calibre in the CFL? He'd DESTROY the defences; hell, with a rushing game with Ricky, even Crandell would look good at QB!

Wow, with Jesse Palmer at QB and Williams at RB Calgary'd be unstoppable!!

Yes I heard this too. Just a fake rumour plus I am sure Miami would have something to say

Wait a second. We'd sign Ricky Williams and Jenkins is still out offensive coordinator. RICKY WOULD LOVE IT HERE! 2 carries a game, heack he could enjoy life with that right?! And then 'The Bachelor' throwing balls 100 times a game. We'd be at the bottom of the league.....oh wait, we are almost there.

actually, we are there
Ahh, don't be fooled. This is NOT a fake rumour! Wane McGarity and Ricky Williams are good friends. They were both Longhorns for Texas and got drafted into the NFL in the same year.
Will Ricky become a Stamp? Very unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

BOOOO Trojan has killed the dream.
Yea sorry calf, can't admit it to myself that we are at the bottom. We do need a running back, and he's got enough money.....c'mon Wane use that stunning charm you have on him.

Sounds like Williams is a bit of an anti establisment free spirit.
If he'd play, he'd play for the Stamps as a hobby, and to hang out with his buddy for a few months in the summer....with half the pressure of the NFL.
Stranger things have happened...but not holding out hope.

To be honest, if Williams played 8 games for us, it would be better than anything we could possibly get from a CFL hack RB.

my prediction would be that if Ricky Williams somehow managed in Calgary he would be averaging like 200 yds every game, the guy was a monster in the NFL and with a weaker talent pool and generally smaller players Ricky would rip it up. But I don't think it would ever happen in a million years, the guy is a pot head and has social disorders. He can't stand pressure and has a hate for the media.

Haha although I don't take the rumour seriously; with Ricky's social problems and such, he'd probably thrive in a much smaller market and on a much smaller stage than the NFL. I also don't think the Calgary media is anywhere near the level of pressure that he faced in NO and Mia.
As for his habit, isn't the Ganja almost legal here now??? :P

Am I the only one that thinks that Coach Matt will continue to squash the running game even if we are paying a guy like Ricky Williams to be on the roster. Sure, he could suit up, and pretend to be a running back for us, but in Coach Matt's system, he has no need for a running back.
Sorry to play devils advocate, but I still don't think Coach Matt would use him. Ike was supost to be the next big thing for Calgary. Not when you get 12 yards against SASK.

I don't think that is Coach Dunnigans choice that our running game is slim to none. Even in his pre-game speech he said that he admits him and Jenkins haven't been on the same page with the offense. If your looking for a reason why our running game is minimal then Jenkins is the problem.
As for Trojans pointing out or excess of imports. If something like this happened than hypotheically wouldn't we just trade/release Ike?

Pointless rumour. Ricky is under contract in the NFL, and I'm pretty sure the CFL would allow a guy to retire then pop up in the CFL. Otherwise, you might as well make CFL contracts worthless for the high end talent (Ricky Ray, Boerichter, etc.) as anyone that could would 'retire' and head to the NFL before their contracts were up.

Doesn't the CFL have a drug policy?

It does, and is no doubt enforced by the same crack team that enforces the salary cap...
