I'm not up on my Blue Jays but listening to Jim Rome's show right now Dave Stewart, ex Jays pitcher, has flat out charged the Jays with practicing racism for not having hired him to manage the team.
He said the person they eventually hired was obviously inferior to him as a candidate and therefore the Jays brass must be practicing racist policies.
Comments?
No link. Just the radio show.

Stewart made these allegations a few years ago too. Tough to say if they are true or not but frankly I would suggest they are not.
Stewart really did not have the experience to justify a position as GM either. So it came down between Stewart with his limited experience and Gord Ash, also with limited experience. Ash though had been with the organization for well over 10 years, working his way up the ladder. So that probably gave him the edge.
Edit: I realize after reading posts below that it was JP that got hired over Stewart. He was assistant GM to Ash. This makes my point even stronger though as JP clearly had more success under his belt than Stewart.
Does racism exist in baseball? Certainly. However in this specific case Stewart seemed a little quick to immediately trot out the racism card in this case. Its dissapointing to hear that he is still bitter and talking about it.

Ridiculous. They can hire whomever they want to. And in a sport where blacks and whites have equal success, why would they chose to hire a white over a black if the black had more talent? I don't buy a word of it.

The Stare...what a great stare he had....has now turned into the Mouth....what a mouth with a little squeaky voice.
Stewart is full of crap. I cant see any team outside of the old Marge Schotts Reds, that would practise racism and expect to win. Its Hooey Dave...your mouth AND your knowledge or lack thereof is what lost you the job.
BTW...and I know this will pee some guys off...IF a company does NOT want to hire a black, red, yellow or green person to do a job, I think they have every right not to hire that person. They may be stupid for doing it....they may even lose money doing it...but its their choice. I dont appreciate Governments telling me who or what I should hire.

Was that for field manager, or general manager Cowperson?
When Gord Ash was fired, Stewart applied for the job JP Ricciardi eventually got. Stewart was assistant GM at the time, and was never considered a serious candidate becaue Stewart himself was responsible for many of the Jays mistakes during that time.
Simply put, Stewart was a poor asst. GM, why hire him for the senior position? When he didnt get the job, he alleged racism then as well, then quit.
Stewart was a remarkable pitcher, but he strikes me as being one of those "woe-is-me" downtrodden minorities who expects the white man's world to hand him everything he wants as reparations for past sins.

Racism?! Why because he didn't get the job! I hate it when athletes or people in general whine they didn't get this or that due to color of skin. I know that Baseball history is full of racism. I just don't see a team that hired Cito Gaston a black man (the first black manager to win a divison pennant and win a world series) to manage a baseball team for six to seven years choosing a GM by skin color. It's all sour grapes!

In reality...white man probably has handed Mr Stewart quite a bit in his life. I dont think he has to ever worry about where his next dollar is coming from.
Mr Stewart you are worse than those who are racist! A multi-millionaire Afro-American man who made his millions off of a mostly white ownership and fan feeling downtrodden? Hang your head in shame....it is your type who will hurt everything your people have worked hard to get....along with the Basketball multi-millionaires crying the same tune.

i believe dave stewart was responsible for the brilliant signing of Joey Hamilton... enough said.. he probably doesnt have what it takes to be a GM.. get over it and take it like a man, enough with the race card already..
