Hey all, my girlfriend is finishing her degree at the U of Alb. in Geology this December. She's looking to start a job in Calgary come January '06. Just wondering if anyone knows of oil and gas companies that are actively looking for a Jr. Geologist. She's had interviews with some majors but nothing coming her way in terms of an offer. She's worked both downtown and field (prefers downtown). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

The only companies looking to hire geologists are ALL OF THEM. She should find out what companies are into the stuff she is interested in. Deep sour carbonates, shallow gas coalbed methane, heavy oil, etc, and target them.

My recommendation would be to target the really small start up companies if I were her. They are of course more risk of more volatility in the job but if she is young the sky is the limit. She could learn a tonne being one of 2 geologists on staff.

Tell her to lie and say she likes the field to get in the door.

Thanks fotze, I hear ya. Its tough for her right now cause she's up in Edm. and cant get the contacts etc going. I'm a Fac. Engineer in heavy oil, so I've been working my contacts, but nothing as of yet. She's done both gas mapping (near Drayton) and heavy oil field+office work near Peace River. So she's got a decent summer background.

I was hoping to get some specifc companies because some of the majors are letting go alot of staff, not sure why (Burlington + Anadarko).

Anyways, we'll see how things go.
