FLORIDA PANTHERS ARE PLEASED WITH CHANGES
The Smelly Rat
Monday August 23, 2004
Sunrise, FL – In a recent sit down interview with Panthers owner Moose Lexington, he spoke out about the changes made in Florida.
”Penney has really changed this team is such a short amount of time. He has weeded out some larger salaries for some younger, skilled forwards” said Lexington. “Penney has already established a rapport with several GM’s around the league and is looking to continuing negotiations with them in the future.”
Penney has traded the likes of Weight, Stumpel, Kiprusoff, Snow, Donovan, and Rathje while bringing in Savard, Bates, Kapanen, Simon, Bierk, Dempsey and Osgood. He has already shed millions in cap room while he was also able to strengthen depth in the AHL.
According to sources, Penney has been bombarded with phone calls on a number of players. The hottest commodity is rumoured to be the young, quick defenseman, Darious Kasparaitis.
“I am willing to move Kasparaitis but the deal has to be the right one” said Penney. “Once I have listened to all offers, I will decide what one is right for this organization.”
Lexington told “The Smelly Rat” that he is pleased with the changes thus far. He also insisted that this is Penney’s team and that he is full control to do as he pleases as long as he stays under the current Cap.
Head Coach Maynard James Keenan was once again not available for comment. It is rumoured that he was in the vineyard picking grapes for his next batch of Australian wine.
Side Note: A total of 10 players were sent packing yesterday in Florida.
