Folks,
Happy to say that Bingo and I will be ripping off our first edition of CP Radio of the 2011/2012 season tomorrow night @ 8:30 PM MST.

We will be changing our live feed for this season - Ustream is now using a model where it feeds advertisements to the listeners. Instead we will be using a service called blogtalkradio.

Tomorrow night will be the first time we use this new system - so there will be a bit of learning curve to contend with - but I'll be interested to get everyone's feedback on how it sounds and what not.

I will also provide the new link for the show tomorrow night just before show-time. You'll also be able to download the show after the fact via this site or on iTunes.

As always topic suggestions are encouraged.

The link for tonight:

Great news!
There's lots of talk about getting rid of coach Sutter. People seem to want a team blow up but yet still blame the coach for not getting results? Which is it not good/deep/skilled enough players or a coach not getting out of them what he should be able to? I also don't think his last name is helping him. Panel thoughts?

Coaching and player overhauls. Working rebulid over 2 years (starting this deadline - who to target, keep and bring up) and maybe going after Boudreau from the Capitals - seems to have fallen out of favour in DC.

I'd love to hear your opinions on what will become of the roster when our other players get healthy, Carson, Moss, Morrison... Who goes to Abbotsford, who gets traded etc.

Talk about Recchi's comments!

Also anything at all that can get D'Arcy to do his Darryl Sutter impression is appreciated!!! (it's gold.)

Would like to hear your opinons on the players we recently called up. More specificly, wether we should continue this youth movement with the intent of trading some vets before the trade deadline.

Yeah, this.

Maybe, if you have time, you can also touch on the state of our prospect pool and the likely hood that we may see as many as seven quality players 23 or younger on our roster as soon as next season. (Backlund, Horak, Byron, Brodie, Bouma, Nemisz and Bartschi)

I would like to hear a discussion on Horak and Smith being told they will stay all year with the Flames. Possibility of Byron and Brodie staying up and for how long and injury discussion on Morrison, Moss, and Carson.

Welcome back guys, I'm excited to hear the show again!

In 2003-04 the Flames had that amazing run to the playoffs and hope was back for Calgary Flames fans. In 2006 they won the division and Kipper won the Vezina. We had one of the premier superstars in the league and the future looked bright. In 2007-2009 the Flames put together some solid regular seasons but playoff success was elusive. And now we're back where we were 10 years ago looking at several consecutive years out of the playoffs.

This downward trend since 2004 has probably had many reasons, but what was the turning point? Was it the Phaneuf trade? The choice to sign Bouwmeester instead of re-signing Cammalleri? The firing of Mike Keenan?

I know it is more fun to discuss the future, but I am really interested to hear your takes on how we got into this mess.

Please post any comments/questions and what not in this thread.
This is the first time using blogtalkradio so it would be great to get feedback on the sound - and of course just an initial word that you can in fact here us.

I think the number one topic right now is whether the players are fully in the mode they were in early last year because they feel a change is coming.

I feel it's obviously yes, but what do you gents think?

Honestly if this is what it takes to get the team going the big change should be in the leadership of the team (Iginla). Can't fire coaches and GM's every season. It's getting ridiculous.

I totally agree and that's what I responded to your post in the PGT with. Stop allowing these players to get coaches canned.

Do you guys legitimately believe Feaster is the one who can turn this team around, or was he hired because his plan was not to overhaul?

Flash Walken
11-21-2011, 09:42 PM
The big thing, which is going to be the same factor that killed 'the run', is that the toughest part of the schedule for calgary is in January and march/april.

If they can't get any points playing the worst teams in the league, what are they going to do when they go through the pacific?

Flash Walken
11-21-2011, 09:43 PM
Calgary at this point has to turf Sutter to try to get that inevitable 15 game bounce from a new coach.

At game 10 of that 15 game bump, you move everyone you can at their medium/elevated value.

Roof-Daddy
11-21-2011, 09:43 PM

Interested to hear your thoughts on Kyle Turris and what he might mean to a rebuild

Flash Walken
11-21-2011, 09:54 PM
I'm not convinced Giordano is part of this rebuild as he is maybe the most attractive trade piece.

Also, I think at this point Horak's body of work is superior to Backlund's.

11-21-2011, 09:59 PM
Do you guys think the Brad Richards thing could have been smoke and mirrors and Feaster knew that he wasn't coming here, but wanted to wave the flag of trying?

I know that's a little black hat ... but who knows?

Flames Fan, Ph.D.
11-21-2011, 09:59 PM
so if we were even thinking of bringing in Smyth, does that mean that Iggy is really just not a locker room leader? Why would we need a "veteran presence" otherwise? I've never really understood that.

Flash Walken
11-21-2011, 09:59 PM
Picking up Smyth would've been a coup I think for Calgary.

Final year of his contract, attractive asset to teams entering the playoffs, trade him away at the deadline.

The same thing will happen with Stempniak, but Smyth would've been a bigger pay-day.

I'd take Turris for Backlund any day, if necessary for Phoenix to make the trade.

FlamesAddiction
11-21-2011, 10:24 PM
I wonder if Nashville would ready to part with the rights to Radulov yet. He did what Turris is doing and Nashville never caved. He played junior in Canada, so it seemed like he was prepared for a career in North America. I doubt that Nashville has it in their budget even if they did want to sign him now.

He is only 25 and has been a scoring machine in the KHL (and had a 26 goal / 58 point season in the NHL as a 21 year old). An acquisition like him could help speed up a rebuild. Probably just as worthwhile as Turris.

What makes Backlund such a big part of the future? I say if teams are offering something decent for him that he should definitely be in play.

He's really shown very little to make you think that he'll be a core piece.
