I won't be the only one in a pool this weekend. What are your favorite lists this year? I noticed the mags sold at 7-11 are quite old--over a month for some of them. Any good blogs or online lists?

Dobber. I do my own list from scratch every year and then after coming up with my own numbers I compare them against his numbers. I ranked 520 players this year and 87.3% of what I ranked was within 10 points or less of what he had. The only major gaps come in where we disagree on certain guys actually playing, two examples this year would be Stefan Elliott in Colorado or Craig Smith in Nashville.

Dobber is the only one I know of who updates his Guide throughout training camp with injury updates, players who made the team unexpectedly, and point adjustments based on other mitigating factors. It's an online download, you can't get that out of a magazine you buy in the store.

I looked at my Mckeens from last year and they were pretty far off on a lot of projections. It's great for depth charts and analysis though.

I like The Sports Forcaster.

McKeens is good for scouting reports, but doesn't have a good track record for predictions. The Hockey News isn't good for anything.

Has anyone seen McKeen's around? Every 7-11 i've been too doesn't seem to have it. As for dobber, is the $10 guide worth it, or do you just go off the top 300 ranked players he posts on the site for free?

Here are a few free ones. Personally, I created a spreadsheet using analytics based off these rankings, last years stats, and some personal thoughts.

TSN Top 300 with Projections (http://tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=49646)
NHL.com Top 175 Fantasy Rankings (http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=587088&navid=nav-fant-sub)
NHL.com Top 50 Breakdown (http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=587260)
If you have a Yahoo account, go to Yahoo NHL Fantasy and it has player rankings as well. (http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey/49864/players)

If you don't have to pick rookies then completely avoid them.

Short of Crosby and Ovie no rookies as of late have produced up to the point totals poolies think they will.

McKeens and Sports Forecaster are the mags I look at, but careful because chances are a lot of people in your pool are doing the same.

I've won our main hockey pool 5 out of the last 8 years and it all comes down to finding those mid level players that are gaining big points this year. I know it seems simple, but it isn't, especially not when 10 or 11 other guys are also gunning for that same guy.

McKeens and Forecaster are both great for pointing out possible break outs, usually about 50% of who they suggest will have a career year actually does. Pretty good odds considering the number of players they list.

I am the fantasy hockey king, never lost a league that I've participated in.

Hoping to continue that trend this year, we had our draft yesterday and I think I have a pretty good team!

You must have really good luck (no injuries) or have a bunch of clueless people in your pools haha.

As long as I finish in the top couple spots I'm happy. Last year Malkin was my first pick, once he was hurt I was done. There's no predicting that.

With that in mind here's my team I picked last night, straight points pool, 2 trades half way through season, no minimums for dmen or rookies and no goalies. 13 teams in our pool I had the 12th pick and we snake up/down.

1 - Backstrom
2 - Richards, Brad
3 - Stastny
4 - Green
5 - Staal, Jordan
6 - Cammalleri
7 - Horton
8 - Weiss
9 - Voracek
10 - Wheeler
11 - Bouchard
12 - Chara
13 - Phaneuff

Lets see other peoples team, always currious how other pools play out.

My pool picked tonight. 15 picks plus 2 injury replacement players that can be switched in only when another player gets injured. 2 goalies required, no requirement for forwards, d men, or rookies, 14 teams picked in a snake order, I had the 14th pick overall (darts to determine what position you want to pick for). Here's what mine looks like:

1. Ryan Miller
2. Henrik Zetterberg
3. Joe Thornton
4. Marc-Andre Fleury
5. Alex Tanguay
6. Martin Havlat
7. Jason Spezza
8. Alex Burrows :bag:
9. Taylor Hall
10. Martin Erat
11. Brad Boyes
12. Patric Hornqvist
13. Brayden Schenn
14. Ryan Johansen
15. Erik Johnson

Injury Replacement:

Tuomo Ruutu
Kris Versteeg

It's easy to win pools when you go up against inferior competition.

I noticed you are not on the list for the CP Pool. ;)
