Now that the season is (almost) in the books - we will be broadcasting our final edition of CP Radio.

We are targetting Monday evening - but that is to be confirmed.

In the meantime we welcome topic suggestions. We'll be covering the obvious off-season questions - who will be gone, who will be back, what will happen with the GM positions, etc.

Anything specific though we would also be happy to talk about.

It was discussed a bit in the Back Burner Forum, but I'd really like to hear your opinions on what you see for the future of Jim Playfair as his contract ends this season. Should we re-sign him and keep him with the Heat, or is he a candidate for an NHL job somewhere?

Thanks!

I just wish there was a way you guys could make this a weekly show. Thoroughly enjoy it everytime. Thanks.

Not sure if you're planning a draft preview show before June, but if not, you could look ahead to the Flames draft and the odds of them adding some more picks.

We will like do a summer show once there is a bunch of news- but more than likely it would be after the draft. So we will likely talk about the approach heading into the draft on this show.

Can you talk about the backup position and which direction the Flames should go. Keep Karlsson or bring in Irving.

Also should we be playing Kiprusoff less and is 70+ games burning him out. Or are we seeing a decline in the skills of Kiprusoff.

Also, if you can find some reason to get D'Arcy to do his D. Sutter impression, that would be awesome.

Discuss Jay Bouwmeester, and why he sucks.

..I'd be down for some Jay Bouwmeester and Matt Stajan discussion. I think you'd be hard pressed to find two players on the daily roster that failed to contribute to the success of the team more than these two. Simply "eating up minutes" can't be Bouwmeester's best asset anymore. 2 years with him, 2 years out of the playoffs.

In Jay Feaster's "After Hours" interview, he talked (positively) about re-signing Tanguay (priority), Glencross (priority), Morrison (mentioned Langkow and knee injury), Babchuk and Karlsson.

Later in the interview he commented that the team didn't get it done and changes would be necessary.

What do you make of these statements? What changes can we expect when he has stated his intention to keep the team together?

In 2009-10, the Flames missed the playoffs due to one terrible month of hockey (January 2010). At the end of the season the organization (management, coaches, players) vowed they had learned their lesson and it would not happen again.

In 2010-11 the the Flames missed the playoffs due to one terrible month of hockey (November 2010). At the end of the season the organization (management, coaches, players) will vow that they have learned their lesson and it will not happen again.

To me it shows that like golf, this really is a mental game for the Flames. The talent, depth, and skill is there...but something is missing.

This raises numerous questions for me and I would love your takes:

Why did history repeat itself this year?
Should we expect anything different next year?
Who takes the biggest share of the blame (management, coaches, players) and what can be done to fix the problem?

The hot-button issue of the day in the NHL is headshots. What can and should be done short-term and long-term to reduce the number of concussions in minor hockey and professional hockey?

If Bouwmeester is traded, should it be for as much immediate help possible, or for picks and prospects?

Who on this roster can replace his minutes?

Debate about who will fill the 5,6,7 defence spots for next season between Carson, Pardy, Mikkelson, Staios, Brodie, Erixon, etc.

Who is the best option? What are appropriate values/expectations for each? Who should be signed/promoted next season?

What are the chances someone would take Stajan off our hands? Do you think if we included a pick with Stajan ( 2nd rounder) that he could be traded with no money coming back?

Unless someone hires Mike Milbury... I don't think this is going to happen.

Disagree guys, I think Hagman is traded this offseason.
He has 1 year left and at 3M, I think a team will take a shot at him.

How will this team move forward with so much money once again tied up in defence?

PeteLFan
04-11-2011, 09:09 PM
Kipper 5.8, Gio 4, Reggie 4, Bustmeester 6.7, Sarich 3.6 thats why too much for that group, and how bad we are defensively.

Keep the pick, and its a possible someone will drop to us like Cam Fowler did to Anaheim last year?

Which free agents from other teams do you see the Flames targeting? A couple names that I think might fit: Ville Leino, Scotty Upshall

PeteLFan
04-11-2011, 09:14 PM
Brayden Scheen and a 1st rd pick is not enough. Iginla is a superstar and a game changing player, we will get raped in any trade unless its a star for a star trade.

If we trade Iggy to L.A. and Schenn doesn't come back we lose.

Savvy27
04-11-2011, 09:14 PM
If you can't get Schenn for a top 5 goal scorer, then it would be ridiculous to trade him.

You've confused Upshall with Hartnell.. but Upshall is from Fort MacMurray.

We are indeed on itunes already, and for free. It usually goes up there a couple days after.

We are planning on doing more shows next year - this year was challenging in a lot of different ways - equipment problems and "life stuff".

Listened to the show on the way home tonight. Great job, as always.

The level of proof required to overturn a call on the ice has to be a hold over from when video replay was first introduced in the NHL. At the time, the referee standing at the goal line presumably had the best view of the play on the ice. Now, however, with high definition, slow motion and multiple camera angles that just isn't true anymore. With all these advantages, the war room can take an extra few minutes to evaluate all the evidence and probably has better information than the most seasoned referee in the best position on the ice.

Regardless of the call on the ice, if the play goes to video review the burden shouldn't be much more than a balance of probabilities. Is it more likely than not that the puck crossed the line? If the guys in Toronto think it's most likely in, that should be good enough.
